The Tarot of Fonts: Beginnings
Welcome, goon (Aries) season, my most favorite time of year. A spark, the first breath, a seed planted. Using that as inspiration this round, what cards in tarot represent a beginning?
🧨 Ace of Wands: Wands are fire energy. In a reading, this is your drunk bar bathroom bestie hype girl… it is yelling at you that yes, this is it. It feels fitting that a font haphazardly chosen to brand my lil’ biz goes with this card of simply starting and figuring it out along the way. Le petit Cochon is slightly unpredictable, but legible and fun.
💀 Death: This card feels scary, but I love this card (it’s my 8th house stellium). It symbolizes significant and profound transformation. It does not discriminate, change comes for us all, as does death, literally and symbolically. An inevitable change that allows for necessary rebirth. It’d be low-hanging to simply choose a gothic family font, but Hello Paris delivers drama, just like death. Come to think of it, every time I’ve been in Paris, I’ve walked away reborn.
🤺Ace of Swords: A breakthrough! Ruled by air energy, the Ace of Swords indicates new ideas, mental clarity and sheer focus. Swiftly cut through the noise and get to the point. Sans serif Garet delivers the message with a sconch of wide whimsy.
🌎 The World: Often signifies completion, the world continues to turn, even when it feels like it won’t. You’ve closed one chapter, it’s time for a new one, how will you write it? If we’re being literal, Vivre Libre translates to “live free”. I like this for The World because like the card, there’s duality and freedom. the feel changes based on what case you use. Add in the thick strokes on the ascenders/descenders and the subtle swashes, the world is yours.
🍶 Ace of Cups: Cps bring water energy. Emotional beginnings, whether a new relationship, spiritual renewal, or an intuitive hit, an abundance of joy is trickling in. This card feels like a diary entry that has you doodling hearts in the margins. Glypher is a fluid, flirty handwriting font, and what I would have written AIM away messages in (missin’ u Bradley Hand).
🔎 Judgement: Hi hello, it’s time for a wake up call. In a reading, this card asks you to reflect and make the conscious choice to leave the past behind so you CAN start again. Do you want your judgement regular or bold? because that’s all Bebas Neue is giving, all caps, straight-forward judgement. Bebas has her shit together, do you?
💍 Ace of Pentacles: Pentacles emphasizes the earthly and tangible, the energy is slower, but a seed has been planted for long-term growth financially or professionally. The Seasons gives simple serif luxury, taste and sturdy timelessness, forever in style.
🧳 The Fool: The Fool was the first card I approached in this project, and I’m including it again because it is THE beginning card of tarot. it’s time to begin, but watch your step. Barrio
